Whether you want to replace an existing patio door, or hope to open up a room by having a new door to your backyard installed, French doors can be an excellent option. These types of doors come in a variety of styles and have a number of benefits. Some of the main advantages of French patio doors include the following:

Architectural Style

French doors can be found in a number of different materials and colors, and it is easy to find an architectural style that compliments your home and becomes a visual focal point of a room. You can opt to buy French doors with beautiful trim or molding to draw the eye to the area. Make sure the yard beyond the French doors is well-landscaped so you can bring the beauty of the outdoors into your home.

Security

For many years sliding glass doors have been installed in homes when they are built, but these types of doors come with security risks. All an intruder has to do is pry a sliding door off its track and then he or she will be able to gain access to your home. French doors are designed to be much more secure in order to protect your home. Many French doors have hinge bolts on each panel that can be secured at the top and the bottom, as well as a deadbolt that connects the panels together. When properly locked, French patio doors make it very difficult for an intruder to enter your home.

Energy Efficiency

If you're replacing an old patio door, you will probably notice that new French doors are very energy efficient. New French doors typically incorporate energy efficient glass panels, and the door material itself is designed to fit tight into a doorway to prevent air leaks. The simple act of replacing an old patio door with new French doors can help you save money on your monthly home heating and cooling costs.

Make a Room Look Bigger

When you want to add an access point to your backyard and patio in a room without a patio door, French doors are a great choice. These types of doors can let a lot of light in, which can instantly make a room look bigger and more open. In most cases, having a wall opened and a French door added is a home improvement project that is relatively affordable and can add long term value to your home.

About Me
Refinishing Your Front Door

After taking a good, hard look at the front of our house, I realized that I really wanted to take a little time to refinish our front door. It was weathered and unsightly, and I wanted to update it with a new coat of stain. However, I wasn't sure how much time or effort it would take, so I decided to take things slow and hire a carpenter to come and help me. He was incredibly helpful, and it didn't take long to completely overhaul the front door. By the time we were finished, the front door looked amazing, and I was really impressed with the outcome. This blog is all about refinishing your front door.
